{amylouwho} dyeing to stitch blog tour and giveaway!!

I'm so pleased that my friend Candy of Candied Fabrics invited me to be a part of her blog tour for Dyeing to Stitch!  She is a master at making her own hand-dyed fabrics and along with the folks at Quilting Arts Workshop she has put together a comprehensive guide to dyeing fabrics and creating art with the finished product!

Look at cute Candy! Unfortunately we haven't had the pleasure of meeting in person but we have exchanged many many emails and facebook messages.  I can't wait to give her a hug in person when we meet in real life!
It was really fun to watch her and hear her voice!  She is a biology professor by day and has great way of connecting with her audience.

The DVD is broken up in to the following chapters.
Not only does she talk about the basics of dyeing and how she came up with her process, she discusses color theory.

My favorite quote from the video, "I get obsessed with a particular color..."  I so hear you! (#turquoiseobsessionmuch?)  We've bonded over our love of turquoise-y blues and bright greens (and bird silhouettes)!

She even came up with her own “Candiotic Table of Elemental Color”

She is able to recreate any color here by using the recipes she also discusses.

In the chapter, "Using Quilting as a Line + Conclusion", she shows how she makes her mini art quilts.  This was probably my favorite part of the DVD - her botanical sketches are gorgeous!  I love this pillow in particular.
She has definitely cultivated her signature look and I love it.  I love how passionate she is about creating every element of her art.  And really, when you think about the fact that she creates every part from the color of the fabric on up, it really is art.

Here are a few other examples of things that she has made (that I love!)

And probably my favorite was this quilt for babylouwho that several blogging friends made for me.  Candy contributed the fabrics.
What's a baby quilt picture without the baby?  I can't believe she's not this little anymore!

I feel a little sheepish to say that I've never watched any Quilting Arts TV.  But after this I'm excited to find more workshops that they've produced.  It was really well done!

And here's a preview of the video!

Now, for what you have all been waiting for - the GIVEAWAY! Would you like to own your own copy? Candy is offering up one copy of her DVD to one of you.

I've got way to many project in the works. Most of them are for Christmas, so I hope to get them done in the next week or so. One is a set of 6 place mats for my mother, Christmas wallhangings and a couple of aprons. Would love to add/learning to hand dye fabric to my tool belt.

I have lots of projects underway--sewing wardrobes for 5 new dollies is lots of fun--two quilts are almost finished. I have some knitting and crocheting projects done already. The day I'm looking forward to is the day I emboss little metal medallions to decorate jars filled with chocolate candies.

I'd love to win! I am contemplating starting a circle quilt. I have fat quarters all over the sewing room floor and need to prune them down to the best ones for this quilt!

I would love to starting dyeing my own fabric! I'm currently working on several things (aren't we all) most recently quilting on a "spools" quilt I made using batiks from a strip exchange!

I am currently working on a quilt based on photos I took in Africa this summer. I wish I had had this DVD before I started! But there's always the next quilt...

Right now I'm working on the Orca Bay mystery quilt from Bonnie Hunter. Step 3 is on Friday. Thanksgiving kinda got in my way for keeping up.

I would love to try the technics shown in this DVD. My mind is already thinking of color combinations and whatnot...

Today I'm going to work on a mini storm-at-sea. I bought the kit from John Flynn. It was pre-cut, so it's not too crazy and I have almost all of the tiny blocks finished. Maybe it will start to go together today. I would love to learn to dye fabric! Thank you for the giveaway!
